Stop Boris Johnson Campaign!

THOUSANDS of people across Britain will take to the streets over the coming days to demand an immediate general election as the only way to stop this Tory nightmare following unelected Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s coup against democracy.

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity have called for demonstrations to take place across the country as anger continues to grow over Johnson’s “smash and grab” against democracy by shutting down parliament to force through his No Deal Brexit.

Those gathered will demand an immediate general election -the only real people’s vote - and the chance to bring down a Tory Government desperately clinging on to power with a wafer thin majority of one.

Calls for an immediate general election will be led by Labour MPs including Laura Pidcock, who recently accused Johnson of an “abuse of power” ” warning of “a dangerous, anti-democratic precedent” being set by shutting down parliament in a bid to avoid scrutiny.
We believe it is clear the only way out of the crisis is for a general election to give the people the opportunity to bring down the hard right Tory government led by the unelected Boris Johnson.

The only way to end the Tory austerity nightmare is the election of a Anti Austerity government committed to saving our hospitals and schools, investing in housing, renationalising our public services and acting on behalf of the people, not Johnson and the Tories' pals in the banks and big business.

Manchester People's Assemby Report

AS Tory party delegates retreated behind a ring of steel walls at Manchester's Central Convention Complex on Sunday, over 80,000 people filled the city's streets to protest at government austerity measures.
It was the biggest demonstration in Manchester in years. As well as tens of thousands of local people, 100 coaches came from across the country - from London, Cardiff, Brighton, Bristol, Sunderland, Newcastle and elsewhere.
But we didn't stop there.  Everyday the Tories have been in Manchester we have been too.  Last night over 8,000 people came to the Manchester Cathedral to hear Jeremy Corbyn, Natalie Bennett, Owen Jones and others at the 'People's Post' rally organised by the CWU and People's Assembly. At the same time 2,000 people rammed into the Manchester Academy for the Beat Back! gig with Super Furry Animals, Charlotte Church and Public Service Broadcasting.
Hundreds marched to the conference centre to save our NHS earlier today, Disabled People Against Cuts held a direct action outside the entrance to the conference centre & countless other events and actions have taken place.
The People's Media Hub has been covering the protests and events and have produced some fantastic video's of the week.
We'll be uploading lots more, including protest videos, interviews with special guests, analysis and on the ground reports. Watch this space.
Today is the last day of the week of action and events include protests and meetings on Climate Change, film screenings and we've just announced the details of the final event:

Marching in Fun at Tory Conference

SOME 60,000 people assembled yesterday, according to police reports, to demonstrate against austerity and the Tory Party Conference in Manchester.  The People's Assembly e-mail announced:
'The day has arrived and we will gather in our tens of thousands numbers to show the Tories how we feel about their austerity policies on the day they open their conference in Manchester.'

Tribes of trade unionists, left groups, Greens, and other assorted protesters traipsed down Oxford Road towards the Saint Peters Square, while across town on Market Street shoppers got on with their consumerism.  It was another seemingly endless case of gloriously marching together by the British left.  A supreme exercise in political  impotence with Left Unity, the Socialist Equality Party, the Green Party, Bristol Health Service workers, the Haldane Society, Derby Unite Community Union, Withington Labour Party, Whalley Range Unite branch and Unison all strolling along.

The journalist, Michael Crick, claimed he'd been spit upon by an anarchist as he entered the conference, and someone on Twitter claimed that yesterday there were police snipers on the roof of the Great Northern Complex.  Manchester police say they were only there for observation.

Meanwhile, the fun looks set to continue with the People's Assembly announcing:
'The Tories have gate crashed Manchester and they are simply not welcome. Yesterday, the week of action began with parties, gigs, public meetings and flash mobs.'

'LEFT' with Egg on its Face!

LAST night, at a demo outside Boots on Market Street, Manchester a speaker from Manchester TUC claimed that he thought that  George Osbourne might have cut his intended attacks on the British working class in his budget, because of the mass demo last month by the Peoples Assembly in London.  Last night's Manchester demo was planned as part of a nationwide protest against the Tory government's budget.

In a statement put out earlier the People's Assembly declared:
'Across Europe people are rejecting austerity, and the best thing that we can do here in Britain is make sure the Tory government faces the largest opposition possible.  George Osbourne is planning a further £12bn in cuts to our services.  Join us this Wednesday to protest against the emergency budget and say OXI TO OSBOURNE!'

Meanwhile, cunning George Osbourne installed what he called 'a living wage' of at least £7.20 an hour for over 25s from next April.   Mr. Osbourne said:
'We want to go from a low-wage, high-tax, high-welfare economy, to a higher wage, lower tax, lower welfare society.'

This morning, the Morning Star called this a 'LIVING WAGE RUSE EXPOSED', and argued in a leading article that 'Osbourne's promises woefully short of minimum to live'.

Yet, is it not a bit of a poor do for trade unionism when the government of the day, a Tory government indeed, has to call on the bosses to pay more?

Does this not suggest that the British trade unions are failing in their job to increase wages?

The whole notion of a state imposed 'minimum wage' or 'living wage' is clearly a symptom of the failure of the unions in this country to drive up wages themselves.

This was not the case when in the 1960s and 1970s there was a solid shop steward movement in the country, and when the rank and file membership had more control of the situation.  Then there was no need for a state imposed minimum wage, and such a thing was only to be found in countries which at that time had smaller trade union movements like France.  Today, the British trade union movement is a feeble shadow of its former self.

'Constitutional Coup' Protest Cancelled!

Friend --

Our proposed demonstration following warnings of a 'Tory Coup'
has been cancelled.
It was fantastic to see such overwhelming support for this action. It was
right that we were prepared to mobilise against dirty tricks.
Following our poll on the facebook event page we've agreed to cancel
tomorrow and re-focus that energy to get the biggest possible
national demonstration on Saturday 20 June. Thanks to all for your
support.

It's been a difficult 24 hours. No one was expecting to wake up to a
Tory majority today. We know exactly what faces us over the next five
years - an even more vicious government than before.
We need to get hundreds of thousands of people out on the streets
against what this government is about to do.
Please get on social media, invite your friends and share this event page.
Get out on the high streets, leaflet, poster, sticker, put on transport, get
involved in your People's Assembly group, make sure everyone you know
is coming to that demonstration.

Lets show this government the full force of anti-austerity opinion. We've
got six weeks to make it happen...

'Constitutional Coup' Claim by People's Assembly

Dear Friend,

The Tories and their supporters in the press are preparing a post election plan to stay in office even if Labour and the SNP have more seats in Parliament.

cameron_2177239b_copy.jpgThey are planning to declare that they are the legitimate government and have the right to form an administration.

This was the meaning of the recent Times editorial which urged Cameron to 'Occupy Downing Street'. This will be a 'constitutional coup' against the wishes of the electorate.

That's why we are calling for an immediate protest if this happens:
Assemble: Saturday 9 May 1pm, Downing Street.

We cannot allow the Tories to get away with using a flagrant abuse of power to impose the most severe austerity this country has seen since the Second World War.

We will use this facebook event page to keep you updated about any changes to the time of the demonstration depending on the outcome of the election. Watch this space and, please, invite your friends and share the facebook event page.

More info:

Whatever happens, the People's Assembly 'End Austerity Now' national demonstration on Saturday 20 June is more important than ever.

Please keep spreading the word and lets make sure the new government feels the full force of the anti-austerity majority in Britain out on the streets in just six weeks time.

Tell the new government: End Austerity Now
National demonstration, Saturday 20 June
Assemble: 12pm, Bank of England
Invite your friends
