Tribute to Toilet Matters & Simon Danczuk MP

MARK Duell for the Mail-On-Line on the 21st, February 2017, reported on how a toilet block at a school in Gambia came to be named and dedicated to the notorious Rochdale MP, Simon Danczuk.  Below John Walker covers the story as it has developed.
April 2017 Newsletter: Getting bogged down in toilet matters:

As we reported in our newsletter of October last year (see here), following a some dealings with Simon Danczuk, the MP for Rochdale over the last few years, we decided to name a toilet block in the senior secondary school after him.

The ceremony was covered by the Mail-On-Line (see here for full details and below for some of it) in February this year, and we reproduce, below some of their extensive coverage.

We are delighted to say that these facilities are now up and running and much appreciated by the staff and students, alike, at Sohm Senior Secondary school.
Ok, we'll leave out the endless puns.

We are pleased to report that we "sold" the story to the Mail-On-line, through a news agency and that money received will help us fix more school toilets in the village.

For the coming year, the Lower Basic school in the village has asked us to refurbish their toilets - for boys, girls and staff.  The photos tell their own story of how much this restoration is needed.  These three tiny blocks provide toilets for over 400 students and 25 staff.

This year's funding project
They are clearly insanitary and, until March this year, were nowhere near running water.

The concrete bases of the blocks have cracked and the ground underneath the blocks are home to snakes - particularly in the rainy season in the country (summer and autumn), with the result that many pupils and staff, alike, refuse to use them.

Roof and doors blown off
 during rainy season
The school's request for assistance is modest. We are committed to working in partnership with our colleagues from Jersey to: restore and recent the concrete bases and erect new doors and roofs, where necessary.

Girls' toilet - snakes nest
below the concrete slab.
200 girls only toilet at the school
Fortunately, because of a water supply project the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission has funded, a new standpipe was erected close to these outside toilet blocks in March this year, to try and address some of the sanitary issues associated with them.

Roofless staff toilets
Given the success of the naming of the Simon Danczuk block, we would look sympathetically on bids to rename any of these three blocks after other people, in return for a suitable donation.

Water now running near toilets,
 for better sanitation
We will of course be willing to supply photographs of the unveiling of the appropriately named facilities to any sponsor.  Just contact us at: John@SohmSchoolSupport.org.uk if you are interested in this nomination facility!

Whose name would you like to
 adorn this fine facility
- when renovated, of course!

Best Selling Book: George Orwell's '1984'

FOLLOWING President Donald Trump's inauguration, George Orwell's '1984' is the best-selling book on Amazon.com.
Today, on the MailOnline Johne Broich wrote:
'The hearts of a thousand English teachers must be warmed as people flock to a novel published in 1949 for ways to think about their present moment.'

Unite Chief & Anonymous 'Smear' Tactics

Len McCluskey says 'Unite members deserve better'

LAST week, Len McCluskey, the current General Secretary of Unite the Union, dispatched a letter to the members of the Unite union complaining about an 'anonymous' communication which he described as 'abusing and smearing both the name of our great union and myself'.

Mr.McCluskey claims:

'Clearly, this mailing is connected with the election for General Secretary presently under way and is part of a campaign to attack Unite for its fighting back approach to defending our members.  The “articles” contained within it recycle smears from newspapers which are not merely hostile to myself, but to trade unionism.'

The anonymous document is a re-print of stories in the press from the MailOnline; The Times and The Sunday Times.  The claims, which Mr. McCluskey describes as 'lies' including claims about a 'cut-rate £90,000' loan and other lurid stories..

McCluskey argues that the 'ruling establishment, both in the media and political circles, have ,,, an absolute interest in both undermining myself as your General Secretary and your union as the leading democratic force fighting to defend and advance the interests of working people across our nations.'
It is suggested that the anonymous communication seems to be 'a breach of Unite's data security' and Gail Cartmail, the Acting General Secretary of Unite is presently investigating the matter.
Up to now two other members of Unite have declared their intention to fight for the top job in Unite:  Ian Allinson, from Higher Blackley in Manchester, the chair of Unite's UK combine in Fujitsu, and Gerard Coyne, a full-time officer from the West Midlands.

Danczuk Squeezes the Stipend!

YESTERDAY the Mail Online reported:
'Disgraced MP Simon Danczuk (the MP for Rochdale) has re-hired his selfie-loving ex-wife to help run his constituency office with the 32-year-old reportedly being paid more than £12,000 a year for the part-time role.  Danczuk, 49, who remains suspended from the Labour party after sending a string of lewd texts to a teenage girl, apparently re-employed Karen because she "understands the casework".  She is now said to have taken up the £12,000-a-year job to "do him a favour" after other workers quit.'

The Sun quotes a local Labour source saying 'this will be seen as fleecing the taxpayer yet again' and the pair 'are already seen locally as freeloaders out for themselves'.

Today Rochdale Online reported:
'Rochdale Lib Dem Leader Councillor Andy Kelly is calling for the Danczuks to finally end the "media circus that continues to drag the town down".  Councillor Kelly said: "I am quite frankly flabbergasted at this news.  It is an absolute disgrace.  I thought the Danczuk's couldn't stoop any lower. It appears that they can.  They are sticking two fingers up at Rochdale people and it's completely unacceptable.  It's time for Simon to go".'

It is most likely that Simon will hang on as long as he can to squeeze the last bit on stipend out of the long suffering tax-payers.  From an anarchist point of view Simon Danczuk represents a caricature of what politics is all about.

Simon Danczuk on the way to the bank!

by Les May
NO wonder Simon Danczuk is smiling in the picture in last Saturday's Independent.  He must be on the way to the bank!

We now know that Simon was paid £5,000 for the 'Sun on Sunday' article of 3 January in which we were told, 'He admitted telling Sophena he wanted to spank her during booze benders on which he drank up to three bottles of wine a night'.  A story he immediately backtracked on in an interview with LBC, perhaps because he realised the public might question his capacity to do his work as an MP if he is regularly 'under the influence'.

This is just another example of him cashing in on his position as an MP to line his pockets.  His pretensions to being a 'working class' guy just earning an honest crust takes a bit of a bashing when you realise it would take someone working a forty hour week, on the over 21 minimum wage of £6.70p an hour, nearly 19 weeks to earn this sum.

And it doesn't stop here.  Last week he admitted to receiving £1,100 from FameFlyNet, a company which "prides itself on helping people in the public eye to raise their media profile'.  Check out the 'business as usual' photos at the 'Mail Online' website and you'll see the same company copyright imprint.  Another 'nice little earner' for Danczuk.  As he indignantly says there's nothing illegal in doing this, but it does make him look like a greedy money grubber in some people's eyes.

Much as I disliked Thatcher I came to think of her as 'one of the perils of democracy'.  I see Danczuk in the same way.  He's here and he'll stay as long as he can.  When he goes as an MP he'll just be 'Mr Nobody' again and all those little 'perks' from appearances in the media will dry up. Even if he gets booted out of the Labour party he'll stay as an MP.  Each extra year he can stick it out he get his £74,000 salary, a 'severance allowance' worth another £12,000 a year and a pension of up to 1/40th of his final salary.

In the past his antics of briefing against Miliband and Corbyn have been a threat to Labour on the national stage.  But in the next four years he's going to be a liability to the Labour party in Rochdale and any hope of winning the seat in 2020.  Simon isn't going to change.  He's going to be the story for the next four years.  Come election time people are going to remember his antics even if he's been expelled from the Labour party by then.  He's already said he stand as an independent if he is.

Even if he does stand against Labour he'll still be unwanted baggage for the next Labour candidate.  The remedy for this is for Rochdale Labour party to dissociate itself from Danczuk as smartly as possible.  Whether that happens lies in the hands of ordinary Labour members who need to make their feelings known.  They need not feel any qualms about distancing themselves from Mr Danczuk.  It is self evident that he has repeatedly brought the party into disrepute and no doubt will go on doing so.
