Flat Chests & Free Speech

Karen Danczuk en Alicante: Madre Mia! Hay Que Grandes!

WHILST I realise that the speed of social media is not conducive to users engaging their brain before they engage their clicking finger, the recent comment by Mrs Danczuk that, 'It's always flat chested or older women that have an attitude towards me. I wonder excuse for being nasty!' seems to me not merely a tasteless expression of self obsession but gratuitously cruel.

None of us has a right not to be offended and the idea that we should 'self censor' what we say or write to avoid giving offence is an anathema to me because if free speech means anything it means having the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

But one thing is certain. Mrs Danczuk is not immune to getting older and the changes that aging brings, and if she is very unfortunate may find herself having to undergo a mastectomy. In twenty odd years time it may become apparent to her why her thoughtless comment was so cruel.

Perhaps after a little time for reflection Mrs Danczuk will conclude that it might be a good idea to delete that particular 'tweet' just in case it comes back to haunt her.
