Karen Danczuk: Have a bet on Councillor Cleavage

WHEN the race horse 'Never Say Die' won the Derby at Epsom in 1954, it was at a starting price of 33/1 and was regarded as an outsider bet.  Yet, now Councillor Cleavage for Kingsway, or the woman formerly known as Karen Burke, but now the wife of Simon Danczuk MP for Rochdale, is rated as 'among the bookies' favourities' in last Saturday's Rochdale Observer to be the first elected mayor of Greater Manchester.  Ladbrokes, the high street bookie, is quoting Councillor Cleavage/ Danczuk nee Burke as running at exactly the same odds 33/1 that 'Never Say Die' was in the Derby of 1954.

Also quoted at 33/1 to become the first Greater Manchester Mayor is Happy Mondays singer, Bez and TV presenter, Terry Christian.  Other more serious contenders are long-term Manchester Labour leader Sir Dicky Fleas at 4/1 and Sir Howard Bernstein at 10/1.  Danny Boyle, the film director who made 'Slumdog Millionaire' from Radcliffe near Bury, is 25/1.

I wonder what price Faker Baker is running at?
