People's History Museum

Work in Progress

The People’s History Museum is delighted to announce details of Work in Progress (12 July – 14 September 2014), our exciting experimental summer exhibition.  For nine weeks visitors will be able to go behind the scenes of our Play Your Part project, have their say and get involved.

Play Your Part is a project funded by Arts Council England that aims to make the museum more relevant to today’s audiences, by responding to current events, linking them to campaigns of the past, with the hope of inspiring activists of the future.

The exhibition will start from nothing and evolve over time as we invite community groups, activists and you to experiment, contribute and create.  If you’re interested in using the space for a meeting, workshop, display, debate or anything else then please get in touch with Catherine O’Donnell on 0161 838 9190 or catherine.odonnell@phm.org.uk.

Three artists will base their studios in the gallery space in our Microresidencies projectClaire Curtin, Oliver Bliss and Sashwati Mira Sengupta & Jaydev Mistry were the winners of the public vote and will each have one week to explore our collections, engage with our visitors and create something inspirational.

Visitors will also be able to meet project staff, witness team meetings and find out more about the project.  They can also discuss topical issues, historic campaigns and breaking news in our debate space.  We’ll also bring out more of our collections and host a series of evolving displays by activists, artists and community groups.

You can find out more about events coming up on our interactive calendar, and keep up to date with developments on our blog and Twitter @PHMMcr #PHMPlayYourPart.
