I am not surprised by the amount spent by local authorities on suspending employees, when I was a shop steward at bury council I argued strongly against suspension of employees.manegement used suspension as a first response rather than a last resort. It was a measure of there own weakness that they could not sort things out by getting both parties together at the depot first to find a solution to the problem. Many of which were not major issues .The effect of this was to overload the depleted ranks of the HR department when you add on the cost of temporary labour to cover for the suspended employee I suspect the cost is greater than the published figure.
