Pay Back Redundancy Award!

SIMON Danczuk, MP for Rochdale, has called on the Secretary of State for Communities, Eric Pickles to intervene to get Rochdale town hall's former Chief Executive, Roger Ellis, to pay back some of his £76,798 redundancy pay-out following the revelations in the local child exploitation scandal.  Roger Ellis left his job in April last year, shortly before nine men were jailed for their sexual exploitation of girls.

Mr. Danczuk wrote to Mr. Pickles saying:
'I am sure Mr. Pickles will agree with me that it cannot be right for a highly paid chief executive, criticised in reports for failing to grasp the serious scale of child abuse in the borough, to quietly retire on a bumper pay of - escaping any disciplinary action while details of his huge pay-off are hidden from the public.'

To date, thirteen social workers, including five current council staff, have been referred to the Health & Care Practitioner's Council and could be disciplined for their role pending investigations.
