Attack on Salford Star!

THERE has been an astonishing attack launched against the regional newspaper - the Salford Star -  by the Assistant Mayor for Housing, and Swinton South Councillor Gena Merrett.   She accuses the Salford Star an independent community media group  of being a 'key supporter of an extreme left wing political party' that aims 'to smash the Labour Council and the Labour Party'.    It appears that the Labour Council in Salford have begun a MaCarthyite witch hunt against those critics of its programme of draconian cuts.   These 'red scare' tactics will cut no ice with the thousands of Salfordians who will see their welfare benefits slashed in April 2013.
