Cush Jumbo Stars in Royal Exchange Revival of Ibsen Classic:
A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen
An adaptation by Bryony Lavery
Directed by Greg Hersov
Designed by Helen Goddard
The Royal Exchange Theatre,
St Ann’s Square, Manchester
Wednesday 1 May – Saturday 1 June
She has just been nominated in this year’s Olivier Awards as ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ for playing Mark Antony in the Donmar Warehouse’s all female production of JULIUS CAESAR. Previous Royal Exchange credits also include PYGMALION and AS YOU LIKE IT - for which she won the 2012 Ian Charleson Award.
This new production sees her play Nora, a young wife and mother who is married to Torvald, recently promoted to a high level position in banking. Life seems content and settled until their marriage is threatened when a terrible secret from Nora’s past comes back to haunt her and she begins to question their world.
Henrik Ibsen’s ground-breaking play is widely regarded as a landmark of the modern stage. A story of domestic revolution, female empowerment and the journey towards self-liberation it queries aspirations, success and what it means to raise a happy family. The play is still as charged, intense and provocative as it was 130 years ago.
Cush is reunited for this production with Royal Artistic Director Greg Hersov who also directed her in PYGMALION and AS YOU LIKE IT. His other Royal Exchange credits include LADY WINDERMERE’S FAN, TWO, ZACK, WIDOWERS’ HOUSES and HAY FEVER.
The cast also includes Tessa Bell-Briggs as Anne-Marie; Amy Cameron as Helene; Jamie De Courcey as Dr Rank; Kelly Hotten as Mrs Linde; David Sturzaker as Helmer and Jack Tarlton as Krogstad.
The creative team is completed by Helen Goddard (design), Richard Howell (lighting) and Emma Laxton (sound).
