WTF is going wrong with Andy Burnham's Bee Network?
Not many weeks ago, upstairs passengers on a double decker bus in Eccles, were
nearly decapitated when a driver tried to go under an 11' 6" bridge
driving a 14' 6" bus. I gather that he wasn't even on the correct route.
We've now got buses crashing into one another. Do these drivers know what they're doing? Several weeks ago, I got on a Stockport to Ashton Bee Network bus and nearly finished up at the top of Moseley Road. Most of the passengers sat their speechless. I was the only one who got up to speak to the bus driver who admitted that he didn't know where he was going. I had to give him directions to the Ashton interchange.
I'm sure that many passengers feel that they're taking their lives in their own hands when the board a Bee Network bus. It's beginning to resemble something like stock car racing.

I am not amused, or am I?
"Audible announcements and visual displays will identify the route and direction of buses, upcoming stops and the beginning of any diversions." This is what I read online and what I now suffer on the bus. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-onboard-announcements-to-make-britains-buses-accessible-for-everyone
Unfortunately, the display is pointing towards the passengers and not the driver, though maybe he has his own display in his cockpit? Otherwise they should consider installing one in the drivers cockpit too to increase the chances of arrival at the correct destination?
And though it makes audible announcements, they are either too loud and tinny-painful or not audible enough because of the awful vacuum cleaner-like racket-noise coming from the back of the bus. I like to read in relative peace and quiet when on the bus especially on longer journeys. Or just look out the window, but now I'm under constant sonic attack! Painful.
I understand this is the consequence of keeping the engines of green buses cool. Badly designed again. What a relief when I get off the bus where where it is relatively quiet. I've heard some car engines sound like vacuum cleaners on the outside annoying pedestrians. Well, they annoy me! Maybe buses have them on the inside to annoy passengers and cars have them on the outside to annoy pedestrians? After all such people are really only second-class citizens.
The awful sonic announcements are not always working thankfully, or just turned-off. Turn them off permanently I say! They destroy the peace and quiet on the bus . They do my head-in. Bring back the old buses which were far more passenger friendly, though no doubt it will be argued that this is an aid to those passengers not familiar with the area or where they are going or who are impaired in some way. No doubt no allowance has been made for drivers not knowing where they are going.
And just why is it so noisy on these beeline buses. It's terrible. I detest using them though it is becoming increasingly necessary as I get older. I much prefer to walk where I can. These beeline buses have been very badly designed. Whether the public were consulted in anyway on their design I have no idea, but ordinary passengers should've been on the decision-making panel-board when these horrible beasts were commissioned.
I'll leave my criticism of the seating arrangements to another day. Suffice it to say I much prefer the older buses, but then maybe it is useful for some?
