Tommy Robinson, ex- leader of the English Defence League, who is now an adviser to Gerald Batten, the current leader of UKIP, was today expected to appear in Oldham just as social media showed conflict between his supporters and opponents of his views.
The Greater Manchester Police said a 'number of objects were thrown' and there was damage to two
police vehicles.
Police said there were no reported
injuries and rumours someone had been stabbed were false.
It is uncertain where Mr Robinson, who
is campaigning for the European elections as an independent candidate for
north-west England, was during the trouble.
